Use Helix to record your patients' medical details and consultations.
- Health Summary
  Information entered by a practitioner during a consult is added to a patient's Health Summary.
- Consultations
  Record details of a clinical consultation in the Consult panel of the patient's record.
- Patient Timeline
  A summary of the patient's clinical history is displayed in the Patient Timeline.
- Medications
  Helix uses the MDref medications database provided by AusDI.
  - Medications in the Health Summary
    View a summary of current and past medications for the patient in their Health Summary.
  - Add Medication History
    Add current medications to a patient's Health Summary that your patient is taking but which were prescribed elsewhere, such as in hospital or at another service.
  - Medication Precautions
    Helix provides prescribing decision support including condition and drug allergy or adverse reaction alerts.
  - Prescribe
    Use Helix to prescribe medications.
    - Write Prescriptions
      Use the Prescription panel to write a prescription, print it and give it to a patient to fill outside your health service or send a token to the patient or their carer using SMS or email via a central repository, such as eRx, using electronic prescribing.
    - Represcribe a medication
      Represcribe any current or ceased prescription except for those where the product has been discontinued.
    - Edit Medications
      Clinicians can edit a patient's medications from their Health Summary.
    - Cease Medications
      Clinicians can stop a patient's medications from their Health Summary.
    - Prescriptions in the Patient Timeline
      View details of ePrescriptions submitted to eRx, such as prescribed date, current status, delivery method, recipient's address and other details.
  - Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions
    Helix can be configured for electronic transfer of prescriptions (ETP) to a central repository.
  - Medication Recipes
    Define drug recipes to use when prescribing or to record medication history.
  - Real Time Prescription Monitoring
    If your site is integrated with eRx, Helix can be configured so that whenever a monitored medicine is prescribed and the prescription is about to be saved, the information is validated by the state's real time prescription monitoring service against the National Data Exchange (NDE) using eRx.
- Immunisations
  Before you administer an immunisation to a patient, check the immunisations that have already been administered on the AIR and the immunisations due.
- Allergies
  A patient's allergies can be added to their record.
- Chronic Disease Management
  Use the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) feature to specify care plans, cycle of care for asthma or diabetes, and GP Mental Health Treatment Plans.
- History & Examinations
  Record details of a patient's clinical history in the History section. Record details of today's examination of a patient in the Examination section.
- Measurements and Assessments
  Record metabolic, pathology and ECG measurements and other assessments in the patient's record as required.
- Recalls
  A Recall is a type of flag recorded against a patient's record that informs practitioners and practice staff of when the patient is due to return to the practice.
- Nursing Requests
  During a consult, add a request for a nurse to complete a nursing action.
- Obstetrics
  Record obstetrics information on the Obstetrics panel.
- Investigations
  Investigations can be requested by a practitioner from within a patient's clinical record.
- Tasks
  The tasks module allows users to send messages (tasks) to other users throughout the medical centre.
- My Health Record
  Securely upload a patient's health data and specific events, including acute care episodes, urgent treatments, or interventions outside the usual care provider to their My Health Record.

About this task

Health Summary icon Health Summary > Medications icon Medications lists medications prescribed in Helix, and any other medications added that the patient has informed you of (prescribed elsewhere).

You can stop a patient's current medication from the Medications icon Medications list.

Procedure

To stop a medication from a patient's Health Summary:

In the Health Summary > Medications > Current list, for the required medication, in the Actions column, click More Actions and select Cease.

Alternatively, select the medication to open the Medication panel and click Cease at the bottom of the panel.
In the Reason Current Medication panel, select the reason for ceasing the medication from the list of options provided. For more information, see Reasons to Cease.

Results

The medication is stopped and is moved to the Ceased list.

If a medication is ceased with the reason Recorded incorrectly, it will be displayed in the Ceased medication list on the medication summary with a strikethrough.
