Medications
Helix uses the MDref medications database provided by AusDI.
Real Time Prescription Monitoring
If your site is integrated with eRx, Helix can be configured so that whenever a monitored medicine is prescribed and the prescription is about to be saved, the information is validated by the state's real time prescription monitoring service against the National Data Exchange (NDE) using eRx.
RTPM Alerts
The RTPM service performs real-time prescription monitoring and returns a response.

- Health Summary
  Information entered by a practitioner during a consult is added to a patient's Health Summary.
- Consultations
  Record details of a clinical consultation in the Consult panel of the patient's record.
- Patient Timeline
  A summary of the patient's clinical history is displayed in the Patient Timeline.
- Medications
  Helix uses the MDref medications database provided by AusDI.
  - Medications in the Health Summary
    View a summary of current and past medications for the patient in their Health Summary.
  - Add Medication History
    Add current medications to a patient's Health Summary that your patient is taking but which were prescribed elsewhere, such as in hospital or at another service.
  - Medication Precautions
    Helix provides prescribing decision support including condition and drug allergy or adverse reaction alerts.
  - Prescribe
    Use Helix to prescribe medications.
  - Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions
    Helix can be configured for electronic transfer of prescriptions (ETP) to a central repository.
  - Medication Recipes
    Define drug recipes to use when prescribing or to record medication history.
  - Real Time Prescription Monitoring
    If your site is integrated with eRx, Helix can be configured so that whenever a monitored medicine is prescribed and the prescription is about to be saved, the information is validated by the state's real time prescription monitoring service against the National Data Exchange (NDE) using eRx.
    - Enable RTPM
      If Real Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) is enabled, when you prescribe medication, Helix contacts the RTPM service via eRx and RTPM returns a response.

      The RTPM service performs real-time prescription monitoring and returns a response.
- Immunisations
  Before you administer an immunisation to a patient, check the immunisations that have already been administered on the AIR and the immunisations due.
- Allergies
  A patient's allergies can be added to their record.
- Chronic Disease Management
  Use the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) feature to specify care plans, cycle of care for asthma or diabetes, and GP Mental Health Treatment Plans.
- History & Examinations
  Record details of a patient's clinical history in the History section. Record details of today's examination of a patient in the Examination section.
- Measurements and Assessments
  Record metabolic, pathology and ECG measurements and other assessments in the patient's record as required.
- Recalls
  A Recall is a type of flag recorded against a patient's record that informs practitioners and practice staff of when the patient is due to return to the practice.
- Nursing Requests
  During a consult, add a request for a nurse to complete a nursing action.
- Obstetrics
  Record obstetrics information on the Obstetrics panel.
- Investigations
  Investigations can be requested by a practitioner from within a patient's clinical record.
- Tasks
  The tasks module allows users to send messages (tasks) to other users throughout the medical centre.
- My Health Record
  Securely upload a patient's health data to their My Health Record.

RTPM Alerts

The RTPM service performs real-time prescription monitoring and returns a response.

Depending on the results, one of the following alert colour codes is displayed in Helix

Note:

RTPM alert notifications are not available when represcribing medications.
For red and amber alerts, prescribers are required to review alerts and the patient's history to assess whether it is safe or appropriate to prescribe or dispense the medications.

Table 1. Alert colours and descriptions
RTPM Alert Colour	Description
Red	Displayed when there is a current alert relating to the prescribing or dispensing history of a patient. These alerts are: Multiple provider episodes - when prescriptions from four or more prescribers, practices or pharmacies have been recorded in RTPM within the last 90 days. High-risk drug combinations - when prescriptions for certain drug combinations have been recorded in RTPM within the last 90 days. Opioid dose threshold - when the daily morphine equivalent dose (calculated based on an average over the last 90 days) exceeds 100mg MED daily (that is a high risk dose).
Amber	Displayed in the following instances: When prescriptions for a monitored medicine have been issued by more than one prescriber or medical practice in the last 90 days. When the daily morphine equivalent dose (calculated based on an average over the last 90 days) is between 50mg and 100mg MED daily (that is a medium risk dose).
Green	Displayed in the following instances: When there has not been a prescription issued or dispensed for a monitored medicine in the last 90 days. When prescriptions for a monitored medicine have been issued in the last 90 days by the same prescriber or medical practice.
